American's mock other languages and accents, is the American accent made fun of as well?

People everywhere mock what's different; it's human nature, and probably goes back to our animal instincts. The creature that is different in the animal world stands out and attracts predators, and thus endangers the group. Similarly, humans discourage people from being "different," even if the "difference" is only in their own minds. Obviously a reasonably intelligent person controls their animal impulses and treats others courteously; unfortunately, not all people have the necessary degree of intelligence and empathy to accomplish the task.
