Looking at scooters - what do we need to know?

Mistakenly put moped on earlier question - now deleted. (Thank you for your advice Timbo is here - noted) We're looking at 125 automatic scooters for durability and stability for a new rider. Looked at some good reviews for a honda pcx125 - what do experienced bikers think? Any other makes you'd recommend - anything else we should look for or know?
