Need help picking Server?

First you need to identify the way in which the server is to be used. Application server, network storage, etc. Then you need to identify Operating system requirements, Back-up and archiving requirements, Storage requirements, Labor requirements. Is it going to be used on an intranet or the Internet? More information would be helpful.
